Our Workshop

Beyond Lights & Shadows Workshop

Background

Photography has already become an authentic memorial thing to the lives of people as it is the process of recording visual images by capturing light rays on a light-sensitive recording medium (e.g. film or digital CCD). It can be thought of as two pursuits:

  • Technical: The science of setting up the camera and the recording medium to take images in a controlled way.

Creative: The art of composing good images to capture.

There are several types of photography, some areas require specialist knowledge e.g. scientific photography,

but almost all photography involves the same basic principles of obtaining a clear, focused image through a lens and onto the recording medium.

Nigeria being the home to Africa’s largest youth population, is estimated to produce over a thousand university graduates annually. Today, youth unemployment is a global concern. Young people can turn Africa’s unemployment crisis around but they need better education, training, and investment in entrepreneurship

Aims & Objectives

The major aim of this project is to empower the African youth by emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurial skills while another specific purpose is to inspire more youths to build their capacity, set up their  enterprises, and create more employment opportunities for others.

Scope of the workshop

The workshop sessions will be a blend of theory and practical sessions taught in a progressive format to allow participants to grasp basic concepts they can apply when photographing. It will also be conducted using a projector device for facilitator presentations, interactive sessions, and sharing of key workshop materials.
Lastly, The workshop is designed to run for 2 days across each country.

What We Have Done So Far

Currently, we have been able to impact 60 participants in Abia, 56 in Osun, and 31 in Nasarawa making a total of 147 respectively in Nigeria. 9 outstanding participants just concluded a mentorship program in late 2022. However, After a successful campaign in 3 geopolitical zones in Nigeria, we tend to expand our reach towards other African cities as time goes by starting from Mid 2023.
